Simon Wilby Sets Up Camp in Barbados

Sunny skies and year-round tropical climate – these are the characteristics unique to Barbados. With the exemption of quick showers during the hurricane season, the weather in Barbados is for the most parts truly Caribbean. This is the very thing that attracted Simon Wilby, the inventive CEO of Smart Power Inc., to the region in the first place. It was not surprising then when he opted to make it his company’s home.

Early this year, Simon Wilby announced the availability of his newest invention – a solar powered cell phone battery called the Smart One – to the local market. And for the past several months, Barbadians have been enjoying the benefit of continuous battery charging courtesy of their inexhaustible energy resource – the sun.

The Smart One is an aftermarket product that totally eliminates the need for plugging batteries via wall sockets whenever these get discharged. It comes in a package that includes a slightly modified battery and a solar cell that is affixed to the back of the battery door.

From his base in Barbados, Simon Wilby targets to expand operations towards the global market. In the next five years, he plans not only on redirecting the ways by which Barbados harnesses its renewable energy resource, but recreate the way the world sees solar power as well.
