When you need to squeeze out several more minutes’ worth of talk time from your cell phone, you typically have to find a power outlet to give the phone’s battery quick energy boost. Not anymore. Simon Wilby offers a self-charging cell phone battery that converts light energy – emitted by the sun, the moon or any light sources – into power that is used to provide your battery with reliable juice.

The Smart One is an aftermarket solar powered cell phone battery that can produce anywhere from 95 milliamps to 195 milliamps, a range that covers the power requirements of nearly all types of cell phones. It uses a solar cell that covers the back of any mobile phone to initiate the charging of the unit and a slightly modified lithium battery that stores the harvested energy. The Smart One package is fully functional once necessary modifications in the battery compartment are made. After which, the benefits of having a more stable, better performing battery can be enjoyed.

Simon Wilby’s creation is presently distributed in Barbados wherein his company is headquartered. In the coming years, he hopes to have it distributed worldwide so that lesser people will be inconvenienced by missing power outlets and bulky cell phone chargers.
